Live Different Week 9 and 10
Our first day in St. John’s was a blast. We were staying with Derek, Tami and their son Adam. We went all around town and checked out beautiful Signal Hill. We had dinner with the wonderful Strong’s (what a veggie burger!) and then Chelsea, Andrew, David and I went downtown St. John’s again to George Street to check out a little bit of the Newfoundland Music Awards’ festivities. We saw Beauwater and The Beautiful Wrecks at the Leve. Great show y’all!
Sunday was rainy and we drove out to Cape Spear, the most easterly point of North America.
Monday morning we packed up and headed to our first show of the week in Mount Pearl. Early that afternoon we arrived at a new billet’s house, Tracey and Harvey and their two kids. We had fun that night watching the Canadian Federal Election Results (with a bit of baseball mixed in!). To our surprise, all of Atlantic Canada was swept by the Liberal Party. It proved to be a very interesting election!
Tuesday was our show at Baltimore School in Ferryland, Wednesday at Holy Spirit High School in Conception Bay and Friday at Fatima Academy in St. Brides. Friday afternoon it was time to leave the St. John’s area and head back to Corner Brook again. It was a long dark drive. Some rain, some clear skies. David turned 29 at midnight as we hustled through the night!
Saturday was David’s birthday and we had a nice walk and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. That night we went to Gitanos for dinner and electric bowling with the gang for some late night fun. Sunday we got up really early to get back to Port-aux-Basques to catch the ferry back to Cape Breton. It was a long day and I think we were starting to feel a little road weary.
Arriving near Sydney NS we stayed the night with Chris and her son Jason. Monday we performed at Thompson Junior High School in North Sydney. Monday we went back to Undercurrent Youth Centre in Glace Bay. It was very comforting to return to somewhere we had actually been before and sleep on the rock gym crash mats again Tuesday was a show at Oceanview Education Centre in Glace Bay, and Wednesday at Whitney Pier Memorial Junior High in Sydney.
We packed up after the show and started the drive to Prince Edward Island. David drove most of the way and I stayed on deer look out. We almost got one! (Or did it almost get us?) We crossed the 12 km bridge to PEI around midnight and arrived at Steve’s house in Summerside.
Thursday we played at Souris Regional School all the way across the island in Souris and Friday a last minute show at Morell Regional High School in Morell. That afternoon we went pumpkin pickin’ and explored Charlottetown before meeting up with Steve for dinner at Gahan House. We went to bed sleepy, happy and full.
Next week were heading back to New Brunswick for more inspiration, motivation and adventure!
Until next time, Love Jitensha
